After several unsuccessful attempts over the span of a few days.....we happened to be there when the attraction was re-opened for the 2nd time that morning. The ride is not officially open so intermittently throughout the day, the queue opens for a lucky few and closes just as mysteriously, The "bugs" are still being worked out. You will get that joke when you ride it.
The queue is beautiful....well as beautiful as piles of sun-bleached skulls can be. Once you make your way into the "building" (the outside portion of the line is in direct sun) you are immersed in a world of dark and mysterious (and a little scary) creatures. The black volcanic rock walls are littered with skeletons and flames. The railings are lashed together with remnants of human hair which really adds to the overall decor. REALLY loud music helps sell the creepy vibe of the Peter Jackson movie and the rhythmic pounding of drums increases your anticipation as you near the boarding area of the ride. You WILL encounter ancient tribe members along the way, specifically the Queen Priestess who warns you of the dangers that lie ahead. Look in every nook and cranny for special effects. Although ritualistic human sacrifice is a major part of the movie, it is not readily apparent in the attraction. The darkness, flames, and tribal theming may be too much for little ones.
This is the view as you leave Toon Lagoon and approach Skull Island. My heart started racing when I saw him!
Skull Island Reign of Kong is a 3D experience. The ride itself is a somewhat slow-moving expedition themed truck. Each row fit approx. 6 guests. You want the last row....trust me. There are no seat belts or bars. The truck moves a lot. You will slide in the seat.
You will be instructed to put on 3D "safety goggles" and ride along to re-supply a scientific research team on Skull Island. You may even encounter a unique creature before you board the truck.
